The Philips Sonicare Flexcare Platinum Connected HX9192 electric toothbrush is an advanced Sonicare model. It costs less than the DiamondClean which offers little more for a higher price. Although all the nice features which come with this model add to the price, the small footprint in combination with the superior cleaning options make it a great choice though.
Sonicare Platinum Connected Review
Let me start with an important information: This review is about the 2017 model, not the – still available – older Philips Sonicare Flexcare Platinum that comes without connectivity.
The Philips Sonicare Platinum Connected (HX9192) electric toothbrush comes in just two variations: with and without a sanitizer. Disappointingly there are no color choices. In other words if you can live with the white color and the metallic front panel, this it is a great electric toothbrush. Especially the free app can really make a difference in you daily mouth care routine.
You have the choice between three brushing modes (Clean, White, Deep Clean) and additionally you are able to adjust the intensity in 3 steps. This may be an important feature if you ever have problems that require to take it easy on your gums. Although some people use the lower setting on a daily basis because they feel more comfortable with a sonic toothbrush that goes a bit slower. And even on a lower intensity it will deliver more brush strokes per minute than a non-sonic model.
Without doubt the biggest plus of this toothbrush beside its great brushing options is the free Bluetooth app. In fact, without the app there would be no pressure sensor. It works with Android and iOS and is designed to help you develop a better mouth cleaning routine.
Additionally, the free app, which is available for Android as well as iPhones, gives you a lot more information if you want. It alerts you every 20 seconds to move to the next section. Then the handle turns off automatically when you reached the recommended brushing time of 2 minutes. It will show you the areas you need to pay more attention to and will let you spend some extra time on them.
The scrubbing sensor is a nice feature for newbies to sonic toothbrushes. If you move your hand or arm too much it reminds you, that the brush should do the work and just glide over your teeth.

Furthermore the Philips Sonicare comes with 1 InterCare and 1 AdaptiveClean brush head. Various other Philips replacement brush heads fit this handle, so you have a choice here.
Design wise this toothbrush is nothing special. The handle is a bit bulkier than the DiamondClean handle with more buttons in front. The absence of rubber grip pads is good because they tend to collect dirt and usually are not that easy to clean. But it makes holding the handle a little more difficult when wet. No problem with the recommended way to hold this toothbrush though. Adopting this technique also helps you to reduce the pressure you can apply. But even if you do, the app will warn you in real time once you do.
Battery and Charger
The rechargeable battery in the Philips Sonicare HX9192 is a Lithium ION one. It stores enough power to use the toothbrush for up to two weeks without recharging. If you want to know your battery status, you just have to take a look at the small light on the handle.
The small footprint of the charger is a plus. Not only does it save you shelf space, it also makes it easy to use for traveling. You can not really say the same for the version with the sanitizer though. Naturally it needs some extra space.
When you buy this rechargeable toothbrush you also get a hard cover travel case to protect your handle and brush head while on the road. The Philips calls it a deluxe case. I think it is just a small box and can’t really see the luxury in it as long as you do not consider having a box in itself is luxury.
Phillips offers support via F.A.Q.s, online manual, email, chat and phone contact. The 2-year limited warranty compliments the customer-friendly support policy.
As already mentioned above there are no color variations at this moment. Nevertheless, the Philips Sonicare Flexcare Platinum Connected is available with a sanitizer, model number HX9192/01.
The model number for the regular version is HX9192/02.
