Introducing the Oral-B Electric Toothbrushes – The 2017 Line

Most Oral-B electric toothbrushes that are available in 2017 clean your teeth with oscillating, rotating and pulsating movements. While brush heads of most other manufacturers look like smaller versions of manual brushes, Oral-B goes a different way. They use round brushes to provide easy access to all your teeth in combination with maximum contact surface.

Additionally, many Oral-B electric toothbrushes got an update 2017 and you can use them now with the Oral-B smartphone app.

The Oral-B rechargeable toothbrushes on this page are compatible with a wide range of Oral-B brush heads.

Oral-B Vitality 2017 Model

The Oral-B Vitality is a cheap electric toothbrush with basic features. The handle oscillates and rotates 7,600 times per min in one brushing mode. The Ni-MH battery lasts long enough to brush 2 minutes twice daily for 5 days.

The blue and white handle has an in-built 2-minute timer. Once the time is up, the handle begins to stutter. Unfortunately is lacks a pressure sensor.

The single voltage charger needs about 16 hours to charge the battery completely.

Oral-B Pro 500

For just around $10 more, you can buy the Oral-B Pro 500. The main difference is the addition of a quadrant timer. The rest of the technical data is pretty much the same: 7,600 movements per minute, Ni-MH battery, one brush mode.

The charger base is a bit small than the one that comes with the Vitaly. The brush head oscillates and rotates. Oral-B calls it 2D action.

Oral-B Pro 1000

Available in blue and white or black, the Oral-B Pro 1000 is just a bit more expensive than the Pro 500 and worth the higher price. You will get an electric toothbrush with a pressure sensor, 2-minute, and quadrant timer.

Additionally, the Oral-B Pro 1000 handle has a battery indicator so you always know when you need to recharge. It can move the brush head with 28,800 movements/min in 2D action, which is more than double speed compared to the Pro 500 or Vitaly.

A small charger for the Ni-MH battery is included.

Oral-B Pro 3000 (2017)

If you are looking into Oral-B toothbrushes, the Oral-B Pro 3000 is one of the models I would consider. This is the cheapest Oral-B rechargeable toothbrush that not only rotates and oscillates but also pulsates. Oral-B named it 3D action. That means, you can take full advantage of all Oral-B brush heads I listed here.

The battery holds enough power for seven days with 2 daily brushing sessions. It moves as fast as the more expensive Oral-B models and can connect to your smartphone via the Bluetooth.

3 brushing modes give you a wider choice. I also like that the pressure sensor not only stops the pulsations but also turns on a light in the handle.

The charger itself is small. You can combine it with a small box that holds your extra brush heads.

Oral-B PRO 5000 SmartSeries 2017

Intended for someone who wants to travel, the Oral-B PRO 5000 SmartSeries comes with a travel case. The Ni-MH battery holds a bit more charge than the Pro 3000 and will last for 20 brushing sessions which equals 10 days of usage.

Information about the battery status and Bluetooth connection is integrated into the handle. It has two separate buttons to switch mode and turn it on or off. Some handles from other manufacturers use the same button for these functions and a lot of users complain that it is difficult to change modes without accidentally switching the brush off.

You can separate the charging station from the brush head storage when you take the charger with you.

It does not move your brush head faster than the Oral-B Pro 3000 but has 2 more brushing modes. If I had the choice between just these two models, I would go for the cheaper Pro 3000.

Oral-B Pro 6000 SmartSeries 2017

A real aternative to the Pro 3000 is the Oral-B Pro 6000 SmartSeries. I see it as a good compromise between price and features.

This electric toothbrush handle has 5 brushing modes and produces 48,800 movements/min, similar to the Pro 5000.

The difference is in the battery. For this model, they used a fast charging Lithium-ion battery. This kind of battery lasts longer and is less prone to memory effect. A fully charged handle is good for twelve days of brushing.

As all handles on this page come with built-in batteries you can not change, a better battery also equals longer lifespan of the handle.

Additionally, the handle got a new design. A so-called „Smartring“ gives you additional information. It provides feedback from the pressure sensor, brushing timer and Bluetooth connection.

Oral-B Pro 7000 SmartSeries US 2017 Model

Technically the Oral-B PRO 7000 SmartSeries rechargeable toothbrush is a slightly older model than the Pro 6000. The handle looks similar to the one used for the Pro 5000. You can see the battery status, pressure sensor and Bluetooth connection status on the handle.

Operating with 48,800 movements per minute, 6 brushing modes, and Bluetooth connectivity, it is a bit disappointing, that it has only a Ni-MH battery. Although a full charge allows you to brush for 10 days, it takes around 24 hours to load.

What sets the Oral-B Pro 7000 SmartSeries apart from the other Oral-B electric toothbrushes is the SmartTimer that comes with it. Earlier a few other handles had the same accessory, nowadays replaced by the smartphone app.

The SmartTimer provides more information than any handle and the concept is similar to the app. What it can not track though is the position of the brush in your mouth. For this reason, you still need the app if you want that feature.

The Oral-B Pro 7000 also comes with a travel case. The charger is similar to the one used for the Pro 5000 including the removable brush head storage tray.

If you do not want to take your smartphone to the bathroom, this toothbrush gives you the most information.

Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 US 2017 model

Do not mistake the Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 with the old Professional Care 8000. The new Genius Pro 8000 electric toothbrush comes with a completely new set of features. It is the latest and most advanced model.

When you use it in combination with your smartphone, you can use the Oral-B app to track your brushing habits, set brushing goals or reminders. But you do not need to. All important information like pressure sensor, timer, chosen mode or battery status are also visible on the handle itself.

This model comes with two chargers. The stationary charger integrates with a storage box for four extra brush heads. If you need to save space you can use it without, though. Another method to charge this handle is by using the included travel case.

This travel case is a new development. It doubles as a charger for your toothbrush and features and extra USB port to charge one extra device like i.e. your phone or electric razor.

I like the fact, that nearly all handles come with a pressure sensor and a battery indicator. Oral-B handles may not be an as fancy looking as their Philips counterparts, but they do their job of cleaning your teeth well. And for me, that is the important criteria.

At the same time Oral-B electric toothbrushes, even in 2017, still come with a region specific charger that is not multi-voltage. If you want to use it in a region with different voltage, you will need an additional voltage converter.
